Study Health Anxiety Is Linked To Your Socioeconomic Status

Researchers at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf in Germany are among the first to systematically study the links between health anxiety and social inequities. They found that social determinants of health, like a patient’s socioeconomic status, do contribute to health anxiety, which could be due to many factors. For example, folks with fewer economic resources already face higher rates of morbidity due to medical and mental health conditions, more difficult experiences with illness and death, and higher barriers to health care (such as cost) than people from wealthier backgrounds....

Study Over The Counter Heartburn Drugs May Help Treat Covid 19

In the July study, which was published in Signal Transduction & Targeted Therapy, researchers analyzed 22,560 COVID-19 patients who were taking a type of medication called histamine antagonists. This type of drug is used to treat heartburn and several brands are available over-the-counter (OTC). The researchers also looked at whether patients were taking other common OTC drugs aside from famotidine such as cetirizine (Zyrtec), loratadine (Claritin), and aspirin. After statistically analyzing the data, the researchers found that famotidine appeared to reduce the risk of death for 1,379 patients who were sick enough to require respiratory support ....

Study People Became Desensitized To Covid 19 On Twitter

But those raw emotions didn’t necessarily ebb and flow over time, alongside COVID-19 cases. New media research from the University of California, Davis suggests that over time, individuals became desensitized to COVID-19 news, even as health threats increased. Lead study author Hannah Stevens, a doctoral student in communication at UC-Davis, worked with her colleagues to examine COVID-19 news articles shared via Twitter early in the pandemic. At first, she tells Verywell, the news-related tweets were anxiety-ridden....

Study Believes Compulsive Gamers Brains Are Wired Differently

Analysis suggests that some of the changes to the brain from compulsive gaming are predicted to help game players immediately react to fresh information in both the game world and reality, while others are linked to distractibility and poor impulse control. The behavior found in the recent Fallout 4 lawsuit wherein a man is suing Bethesda for the loss of his wife and job after spending too much time playing the action-RPG is certainly an indication of the latter, for instead of acknowledging his video game addiction, he’s decided to chase a fool’s errand instead....

Stunning Fluorescent Turtle Embryo Under A Microscope Wins Photography Competition

The winning image was snapped by Teresa Zgoda, a microscopy technician, and Teresa Kugler, a recent university graduate, while assisting an embryology course at the Marine Biological Laboratory, which is affiliated with the University of Chicago. Zgoda and Kugler used a combination of fluorescence and stereoscopy techniques to capture their vibrant image of the turtle embryo. The final image is the result of a process called image-stitching, in which the winning photomicrographers stacked and stitched hundreds of images of various parts of the embryo to create the composite image....

Stupidity Will Live On In Infamy Opinion

Early in this tragedy, some on the right cheered on Russian President Vladimir Putin. They’ve pretty much gone into hiding or are trying, unsuccessfully, to delete from national memory their attempt to undermine President Joe Biden as he was responding to a fast-moving and terrifying crisis. But Republican Senator Mitt Romney rose above that, continuing his long campaign to swat down former President Donald Trump’s serflike praise of the evil Putin....

Sturridge Is In A Race Against Himself And Must Finish Strong For Liverpool

What the striker is and isn’t capable of in a physical, technical and psychological capacity forms a debate that has been a fixture throughout his career. The answers are usually provided by the England international putting the ball beyond a despairing goalkeeper. He has started 83 of 111 games for Liverpool, doing just that 59 times. On Wednesday night, however, as Southampton progressed to the League Cup final at the expense of the Reds, he could not respond with the finishing that has earned him elite status....

Style Springing Forward

The Asian influence: The Indian Subcontinent has been in vogue for a few seasons but, for this spring and summer, designers have looked farther east for inspiration. California-based designer Jennifer Nicholson–Jack’s daughter–has done a cheongsam-inspired cropped shirt in embroidered silk, which Tom Julian, trend analyst for Fallon Worldwide, says hip Angelenos are pairing with jeans by Versace or Earl’s. A number of designers, including Roberto Cavalli, Miu Miu and Blumarine, have turned out slim-fitting cheongsam dresses....

Suarez Tempers Clasico Fever There Are Other Challengers

Suarez had opened the scoring and Barca were winning 2-0 at Camp Nou when the Uruguayan reacted quickly to execute a superb improvised finish from a tight angle in first-half injury time on Sunday. Deportivo goalkeeper Ruben Martinez sprang into action and referee Antonio Miguel Mateu Lahoz was unable to determine with any certainty if the ball had crossed the line before the shot-stopper clawed it away. Goal-line technology is set to be introduced in Spain’s top flight next season, but for now Barca must accept being denied again, Lionel Messi having not been awarded a goal for an effort that appeared to cross the line against Valencia last month....

Stop Talking About The Video Game Movie Curse

The Last of Us creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have been very clear that they view their take on Naughty Dog’s hit zombie survival story as a league above all other video game adaptations. Both fans and creators have described it as a new era for the concept of translating video games into other mediums. Very few people involved in that conversation have bothered to note that it’s all been done before....

Strachan Blames Genetics For Scotland S Qualifying Exit

Needing three points to secure second spot in Group F, Strachan’s men could only manage a 2-2 draw in Slovenia having led 1-0 at half-time. Roman Bezjak netted from a pair of second half set-pieces to put the hosts ahead, before Robert Snodgrass scored what proved to be a late consolation. And Strachan believes an inherent physical disadvantage is hindering Scotland’s ability to match their rivals. “What I do know is that, genetically, we’re behind,” the former Celtic boss said in his post-match press conference....

Strange Overwatch Bug Makes D.Va Teleport After Using Her Ultimate

To be fair, this is hardly the only D.Va glitch that has appeared within Overwatch. In the past, fans have seen the hero get stuck in the sky or thrown out of Eichenwalde. Further, her Ultimate has killed players that were behind cover, and for a brief period of time, Blizzard even disabled her because she was invincible. While the latest D.Va glitch discovered by the Overwatch community is hardly as bad as the invincibility bug that led to her briefly being disabled, the video is still interesting and worth a look for fans of the hero....
