Twitter user Vidwurld recently shared a brief clip showing what they state is a smoking MacBook laptop that’s running Genshin Impact, claiming that the device was almost on fire. However, upon closer inspection commenters have refuted the claim this is a MacBook. Even the poster admitted that they only mentioned it was a MacBook for the keywords.
While the display of the laptop visibly shows a familiar Genshin Impact setting and character, the clip has caused many to question the validity of the video as the smoke plume pours at an unrealistic rate. Adding more mystery to Vidwurld’s clip, the Genshin Impact aesthetic shown on screen may be an image or paused video rather than gameplay as the character remains still and no other players or NPCs are seen moving in the background.

Vidwurld’s video begins with the player observing their character Klee in Inazuma City, one of Genshin Impact’s primary social hubs. Smoke already steams through the laptop playing Genshin Impact at the beginning of the clip, and as it continues the outpour of smoke increases in velocity. The cause of the smoke is hinted to be Genshin Impact, but there seems to be more to it as a majority of the smoke coming from near the Print Screen key resembles exhaust compared to other similar tech videos.
Since being posted, Vidwurld clip has garnered over 26,000 views from a variety of tech enthusiasts and Genshin Impact fans alike. Because most of the smoke in this video billows from around the hinge area of the laptop, there may be something on the other side pushing the smoke through the opening, with many viewers suggesting that it’s vape smoke. If this clip is using vape smoke to create the illusion that Vidwurld’s technology is malfunctioning, it wouldn’t be the first time such a technique was used to make usually capable machines appear inferior as an Xbox Series X clip used vape smoke to make it seem like the console was defective.
While it’s currently unclear what’s causing the laptop to smoke in Vidwurld’s video, it’s unlikely that Genshin Impact alone would cause such a response from the alleged laptop. If the laptop legitimately caused that much smoke, it may have a problematic battery, the machine may be running exhaustive software, or it’s potentially being overclocked. Because laptops are no strangers to overheating when playing games, it may not be a stretch to see some smoke, but the plethora of vapor being exuded in a brief time frame hints that it may be more than just Genshin Impact causing the smoke.
Genshin Impact is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
