Following the reveal of Vecna’s true identity during the finale of Stranger Things season 4 vol. 1 and the state in which Eleven’s powers were back in effect, fans are anxiously waiting for the release of volume two to answer their lingering questions. It appears as though, however, these screenshots have caused more questions than they’ve answered.

“Your first look at the final chapters of Stranger Things 4,” Netflix Geeked cryptically shared on Twitter, followed by six new screenshots from the final two episodes. While fans try to decipher what is happening in each of the shared scenes, it seems as though the Duffer brothers and Netflix plan to keep volume two as mysterious as possible. The first photo shows the Hawkins gang (Nancy, Dustin, Steve, Eddie, Robin, Erica, Max, and Lucas) standing around a table, looking at what appears to be a Dungeons and Dragons playbook. Since this season’s villain gets his name from the game, it wouldn’t be much of a stretch to think that the team looks to Dungeons and Dragons to try and figure out how to defeat him. In the back of the photo, however, Max (played by Sadie Sink) seems to be separate from the group. Do her eyes seem to be in a trance, or is that just the photo quality?
The second still shows Max and Lucas having what appears to be an intimate moment in the Creel house. Alone in the room, Max is seen listening to her Walkman while having a conversation with Lucas. This room is also seen in the Stranger Things season 4 volume two teaser trailer, where Max is running from something and Lucas is staring at someone. Could Vecna show up here to wreak havoc?
The third still shows Eddie, Steve, and Robin driving some sort of bus or trailer. Fans have had some concerns about Steve’s safety this season, but this screenshot seems to give off a relieved and happy vibe. The fourth screenshot takes us back to Project NINA, where Eleven and Dr. Martin Brenner (or Papa) are looking down the hallway at something. It’s hard to tell whether they look worried, or just curious.
The fifth screenshot, shared in a follow-up tweet, takes fans back into Russia where Enzo, Murray, Joyce, and Hopper look at someone (or something) with confusion. When we last saw the group, they were on their way to escaping the prison where Hopper and Enzo were forced to fight a new Demogorgon. Whether they’ve found a way to escape Russia remains to be seen. The sixth and final screenshot takes us back to the group from Lenora, CA, where Argyle, Will, Mike, and Jonathan are still in the getaway car, presumably driving to Hawkins to update the others about Eleven. Will the four make it to Hawkins in time for a final battle with Vecna?
Stranger Things season 4 vol. 2 will be available to stream on Netflix on July 1, 2022.
