RELATED: The Cutest Cats In Gaming History
Given that the area effectively serves as a hub world for Stray, players can open the mysterious safe during any of the game’s chapters that take place in the slums. Unfortunately, however, finding the code the intended way can be a little time-consuming if players don’t know what they’re looking for, so some may prefer to use a guide instead.
How to Open the Safe in the Slums
For those who have no interest in finding the puzzle solution for themselves, the code for the safe in the slums is 1283. Although it’s not exactly difficult, the process for finding this code can actually be a little time-consuming, though it is possible for inquisitive players to stumble upon it naturally as they explore the slums around them.
The full solution requires players to show the “Safe’s Mysterious Password” item that’s stuck to the front of the safe to any of the robots around the slums, which can first be done in Chapter 4 of Stray. They’ll reveal that it’s a very old form of binary code and that only an expert will be able to decipher it. A trip to Elliot Programming is therefore in order, which players can find around the corner from the bar.
If this is the player’s first time visiting Elliot, they’ll need to scratch the door in order to get inside. If they’ve been here before and opened the upstairs blind, however, they’ll instead be able to climb through the window which can save a little bit of time. Either way, once inside, players should show the code to Elliot, who’ll reveal that it translates to “DUFER BAR.” Before leaving for said location, players should grab the memory near the plants in the corner if they haven’t already done so.
Once at the bar, players will need to climb onto the bar itself and walk to the left side of it. If they press Triangle to interact with the picture of the beach that’s hanging above the red neon “DUFER BAR” sign then the picture will fall and reveal the four-digit code scrawled on the wall. Players can then return to the safe and open it up by typing 1283 into the keypad.
What’s Inside the Safe in the Slums?
After typing in the code, the safe will open, allowing players to finally get at what’s inside. Those who appreciate a good tune will be happy to learn that it’s one of Stray’s eight pieces of sheet music: a form of collectible that’s tied to the “Meowlody” trophy. To use it, players can head back around the corner and give it to Morusque, who’ll then proceed to play it.
Stray is available now on PS4, PS5, and PC.
