With Street Fighter V set to release on both PS4 and PC, Capcom opted to run beta tests for both platforms. Enterprising PC fans decided to use this opportunity to go digging through the game’s code, datamining several clues that might suggest which characters will end up joining the Street Fighter .
A poster named AceKombat took to the popular fighting game forum Shoryuken to show off his discoveries. Namely, the tipster shared audio clips mined from the PC beta, which featured audio of the game’s announcer saying the characters names Alex, Urien, Balrog, Juri, Ibuki, Guile, and Fan. These audio clips suggest that beloved characters from Street Fighter III and IV will be added to the roster, but fans are left wondering in what capacity, as these characters did not turn up in a previous datamine of the game’s roster. However, in the aforementioned roster leak, “FAN” was found, which suggests that Fan is likely one of the three new characters for Street Fighter V.
It remains to be seen if this audio is tied to characters that will be featured on the roster at launch, or if the mentioned characters may be added to the game as DLC. In addition to the character announcements, AceKombat found audio files announcing ranking titles such as “Rookie” and “Hero,” and a listing of various upcoming fighting game tournaments, which suggests Capcom will include personalized announcer clips for these events.
While the decision to release Street Fighter V exclusively for PS4 and PC has lead to anger within the fighting game community, this leak at least shows that Capcom is working to make the game a love letter to all things Street Fighter V.
Street Fighter V does not currently have a confirmed release date, but Capcom has said that the game will be out during its current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2016. It will be available for PS4 and PC.
