Surviving in Subnautica: Below Zero is certainly a challenge, but progressing through its story will test players even further. It isn’t enough to sit in the base and survive off of fish, instead players will need to continually advance their technology in order to allow them to travel deeper and further away. Subnautica: Below Zero - Where to Find Gel Sacks
As previously mentioned, Gel Sacks are typically found on the walls of caves. They look like amorphous blobs with purple bubbles protruding out of them, and do not need a tool to be harvested. The location of Gel Sacks has changed quite a few times during the game’s early access run, but it seems as though the official console release places them in the Deep Purple Vents and Lilypad Islands Cave biomes. After some experimentation, these seem to spawn fairly deep underwater and are in regions with deadly fauna. and as such players will want to take great care when searching for them.
Subnautica: Below Zero - What are Gel Sacks For?
Gel Sacks themselves are only used in two different recipes in Subnautica: Below Zero, but these two items are then used in several very important upgrades down the line. By combining a Gel Sack with a Ruby, players can make Aerogel. This material is required for a ton of different recipes, including the Stillsuit and part of the Prawn Suit. When combined with Creepvine Seed Clusters, players can make Hydraulic Fluid, an item that is required to complete the game’s story.
Although Gel Sacks can certainly be dangerous to collect thanks to their propensity to spawn deep underwater and the high concentration of hostile fish nearby, it will definitely be well worth the player’s efforts. Be sure to keep an eye out for these purple growths on the wall when exploring the caves and cliffs of the deep seas.
